The Challenge

Ongoing shutdowns across Costa Rica due to the COVID-19 pandemic presented many challenges for this project. When Energías Limpias de Centroamerica (ELCA) started the project, the country’s shutdowns delayed product and material delivery from manufacturers all across the globe to the jobsite. However, S-5! was able to meet its delivery deadline.

Project Stats

MicroTech selected the PVKIT rail-less solar mount in combination with the S-5-H™ Mini clamp to support a 531 kW DC rooftop solar installation at its manufacturing facility in Costa Rica. The system includes 1,432 solar panels installed on a standing seam metal roof spanning approximately 13,500 square metres (145,300 square feet).

The rail-less PVKIT system provided a simple, secure and economical method for attaching solar modules without penetrating the roof.

The Solution

The preassembled PVKIT components eliminated the need for traditional rail assembly, while the two-piece S-5-H Mini clamp design allowed installers to work anywhere along the roof rib. The rail-less approach reduced freight, lifting equipment and labor requirements, helping maintain momentum despite pandemic-related delays.

Reliable product availability and simplified installation helped shorten the overall project timeline, while the non-penetrating attachment method preserved roof integrity and eliminated the risk of voided warranties. The result was an efficient, installer-friendly solution that supported MicroTech’s long-term renewable energy goals without compromising roof performance or operational continuity.
