Utility Mounting, Rooftop Avalanche, & Wind Uplift Solutions

Project at a Glance

“You not only get a quality product that stands the test of time, but you benefit from a relationship with a family and a team that stands behind their products. Our snow guard system looks the same as it did the first day we installed it, which is a testament to the quality of the product.”

- David Cowart, Church For All Nations

The Situation & Results

The church had a variety of needs to mount ancillaries to its metal rooftop from HVAC to Christmas decor, satellite dishes, security camera equipment, conduit pipes and more. They also needed to protect its roof from heavy snow slides and high-wind events in the area.

What Worked

Church For All Nations is a dynamic, growing, multi-cultural body of non-denominational Christian believers, with two campuses in Colorado Springs and mission outreach throughout the world.

The Northeast campus features a 49,000-square-foot, engineered Varco Pruden metal-clad building with a Varco Pruden SSR metal roof.

Attached to the roof are various S-5! metal roof attachment solutions, including the WindClamp™ 2X, designed to increase wind uplift performance; the ColorGard® snow retention system to prevent rooftop avalanches; and the S-5-U clamps to secure the roof-mounted HVAC equipment—all without penetration of the SSR. The church also utilizes S-5! clamps for mounting Christmas decor, satellite dishes, security camera equipment, conduits and more.

Long Term Outlook

The S-5! team recommended the S-5-U to mount the HVAC system based on its heavy duty-application and the roof’s particular profile. To address the ongoing potential risk of sliding snow and rooftop avalanches, the church selected ColorGard, custom-designed and engineered to dramatically reduce these risks, providing safety to the church patrons and property, while also preserving building aesthetics, which was extremely important to them.

To protect and preserve the roof against the area’s strong winds, the WindClamp was chosen. The WindClamp is placed over the roof’s seams at designated intervals to prevent multiple modes of failure, including seam separation and clip disengagement. This enabled Church For All Nations to preserve its roof and gave them peace of mind that their roof will serve the church community for years to come.

S-5! Products Used

S-5! WindClamps utilize one setscrew for easy installation and are tailored to fit your roof profile to provide the best fit and increased wind uplift performance.

A wind clamp, otherwise known as “External Seam Clamp” is a small aluminum clamp placed over the seam at given intervals to prevent male-to-female seam separation and/or seam separation from its mounting clip. They significantly increase the wind resistance capacity of the panel system.

The S-5-U Mini (“U” stands for Universal) is a non-penetrating, standing seam metal roof (SSMR) clamp. The U offers generous dimensioning and accommodates a majority of the standing seam profiles in North and South America—including most structural and architectural profiles.
