Colorado Mountain Home Tackles Extreme Snow with ColorGard® 2.0

At more than 8,700 feet in Mountain Village, this luxury home paired a new standing seam metal roof with an engineered, nonpenetrating snow retention system built for heavy snowfall, steep roof geometry and demanding mountain conditions.

The Challenge

Yellow Brick Road’s remote mountain setting presented several challenges, from difficult site access and complex roof geometry to extreme winter conditions. With roof slopes ranging from 3:12 to 24:12 and approximately 150 to 250 inches of annual snowfall, the home required an engineered snow retention solution capable of safely managing accumulated snow and ice. Just as important, the system needed to protect vulnerable areas below without compromising the integrity or aesthetics of the home’s new standing seam metal roof.

Project Stats

Yellow Brick Road is a 4,000-square-foot luxury mountain home located at more than 8,700 feet in Mountain Village, Colorado. The property features a 4,451-square-foot standing seam metal roof with complex slopes ranging from 3:12 to 24:12. To manage the area’s heavy snowfall, the project incorporated an engineered ColorGard® 2.0 snow retention system using 135 ColorGard® 2.0 sections, 135 ColorStrip™ inserts and 92 S-5-U™ clamps

The Solution

White Castle Roofing selected ColorGard® 2.0 to provide an engineered snow retention solution tailored to the home’s complex roof geometry and heavy mountain snowfall. The system attaches directly to the standing seams with S-5-U™ clamps without penetrating the roof panels, helping preserve the integrity of the new metal roof while managing accumulated snow and ice.

ColorGard® 2.0’s internal splice also reduced field cutting, simplifying installation across the home’s steep and varied roof sections. To complement the architecture, ColorStrip™ was matched to the medium-bronze roof panels, allowing the finished system to blend naturally into the roof while providing long-term snow protection

“The snow retention system needed to perform in an area that receives significant annual snowfall, but it also had to complement the architecture of a luxury mountain home. ColorGard 2.0 delivered on both fronts. The colormatched system blended beautifully with the medium-bronze standing seam roof while providing the strength and reliability needed to manage snow and ice in the San Juan Mountains.”
